I had the pleasure of catching up with one of our talented in-house artists at Suquet Interiors –Tanya Slingsby.
CD: How would you describe the pieces in your collection at Suquet?
TS: The collection of work that Suquet currently has spans a decade and includes several different abstract and minimal series that I continuing to develop.
CD: What inspires you when it comes to creating?
TS: The natural world and its awesome forces. I also contemplate the human experience and existential struggle within nature and natural forces.
CD: What was your a-HA moment that cemented you as an artist?
TS: I started painting early in grade school so I have enjoyed creative work my whole life. After my mother died, I realized I had nothing to lose and that a bittersweet turning point in my artistic life.
CD: Favourite vacation or travel destination that inspires you?
TS: Balearic Islands, hands down.
CD: Favourite restaurant for lunch or dinner in Yaletown?
TS: Still love Blue Water and Rodney’s after all these years. Many great memories in both.
CD: What music are you listening to these days?
TS: I listen mostly to genres of electronic music. My favourite labels are Defected, Tropical Velvet and Cafe Del Mar
CD: What are you are reading these days?
TS: I have had little time for reading these past few years with a young family. I’ve been enjoying “A-holes: A Theory” by Aaron Jam
CD: How do you feel about the new Suquet space?
TS: I love the new space. It is elegant and welcoming with much to offer any discerning client. I especially love the culture of Suquet – the staff are approachable, knowledgeable and have a knack for taste-making that is fun. It’s a pleasure to be working with them!
